HISTORY OF THE NAME

The ancient Surname of Carrick is derived from King Eugeneus Carrataik, descended from the Ancient Scottish Kings in Ayrshire, Scotland, and the Norman Conqueror, William I, King of England.

 

 

Before the 11th Century KRX originated in Ayrshire, Scotland, as the Cyneric Family (Family Ruler), also as Carric (Family or Rock Ruler), and also called Carrick, { Carr = rock, Ric = ruler}.

 

 

Within the ancient line is Duncan de Carrick, 1st Earl of Carrick, son of Gilbert and grandson of Prince Furgus of Galloway, died. June 13th, 1250. Marjorie, Countess of Carrick, married Robert de Bruce the competitor abt. 1280 and died. 1292.

Marjorie's son was to become King Robert de Bruce I and 4th Earl of Carrick.


The Clan Kennedy attributes its birth from the Carrick line, as Roland, grandson of Lord Duncan de Carrick, changed his name to Kennedy and grew in power. Carrick is a sept of the Kennedy Clan.

 

 

MIGRATION OUT OF SCOTLAND

 

The Carrick Clan migration can be found in Ireland as Carrick and Karrick. Kerrick is found in Northern England in the 15th century.

 

The three surnames (Carrick, Karrick, Kerrick) are found in the United States as early as 1628 in Pennsylvania.
